British challenger promises 'radical, different' new boat for Auckland 2021
British America's Cup challenger INEOS Team UK are heading to New Zealand with a radical new boat.
They have already had their second AC75 delivered and it is being commissioned ahead of its departure to New Zealand.
The Brits intend to fly both their boats to New Zealand as they get set to transfer operations from Portsmouth to Auckland and go through the quarantine process ahead of starting the final phase of their training on the Waitemata Harbour.
INEOS Team UK's original boat Britannia drew criticism over its design, and they even resorted to modifying the hull with a stick-on bustle to bring it in line with the designs of Emirates Team New Zealand Luna Rossa.
Simmer said his well-backed syndicate had funding in reserve to ensure their development program continued in Auckland.

The new Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli base in New Zealand
The Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli base in Auckland which will host the team for the next few months is being completed.
The facilities, which will welcome the team in a few days and will be the AC75's New Zealand headquarters for the next six months, are now in the final phase of completion. Built on the waterfront, within the Hobson Wharf and just a few steps from the Race Village, they cover an area of 5000 m2 and include two hangars, an office area, a shop dedicated to team merchandise. A hospitality lounge will offering a privileged view over the boatyard to watch the preparatory operations of the AC75 and all the support boats.
The project, which reflects the characteristics of the base in Cagliari, was designed to meet the needs of the team with polycarbonate walls allowing for maximum flexibility and adaptability of the interior rooms.
Particular thought has gone into energy-saving measures and environmental sustainability with the LED lighting system and a cutting-edge air conditioning system, providing maximum efficiency with considerable savings and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
The headquarters is equipped with an exclusive dock for the team's fleet which will be joined in October by the new AC75, currently nearing completion at the Persico Marine shipyard in Bergamo. Boat 2 will leave for New Zealand in the first week of October aboard an Antonov 124-100, one of the biggest cargo planes in existence. After a 38-hour flight the boat will arrive in Auckland and will be ready for the first sea-trials in the Hauraki Gulf in late October.
From 1st to 6th October The Genoa International Boat Show Will Welcome Boating Professionals and Enthusiasts for its 60th Anniversary Edition
Click on image for photos from previous shows.
The 60th Genoa International Boat Show will welcome industry professionals and boating enthusiasts alike, from 1st to 6th October, to experience the very best the industry has to offer.
The organizers are working to bring an event that will combine the highest standards of health and safety with an effective approach worthy of the Made in Italy brand and a world-class showcase. Requests for display space have been greater than expected, a sign that the event remains an essential tool for companies worldwide who recognize the value in taking part.
Exhibitors this year will see the return of the major yards in Italy and worldwide who were present last year, in addition to a number of new brands. As of today, these include a selection of industry-leading names: for motorboats Amer Yachts, Arcadia, Azimut-Benetti, Ferretti Group through FSD - Ferretti Security Division, Fipa Group, Pardo, Princess, Sanlorenzo, Sunseeker, VanDutch; for sailing boats, Beneteau, Dufour, Hanse, Jeanneau, Nautor's Swan, Mylius Yachts, Solaris and Vismara. This year a brand new area will be dedicated exclusively to Superboats. A full roster for outboards as well, along with an already substantial number of equipment and services-related companies.
The 2020 edition will see the implementation of a key plan of action aimed at creating a flexible layout that can adapt to a variety of scenarios. Supporting the organisers in this endeavour will be a Task Force made up of experts in engineering and legal practice. Plans are already in place to ensure the best organizational conditions, in line with the parameters defined by the World Health Organisation. This is only possible due to key innovations in relation to logistics, remote management and controlled access, all within an entirely new vision based on the large open-air spaces available.
The online ticketing is playing a central role, allowing visitors to purchase their tickets via the event's official website www.salonenautico.com. The online platform is the only channel for purchasing tickets, which will quickly be assigned to specific visiting days to allow for an effective level of crowd management and to prevent over-selling. Access to the Show area will be strictly monitored and automated.
Alex Thomson Racing: 2 months to go until the Vendee Globe
With the Vendee Globe fast approaching, Alex Thomson Racing released a fantastic new video across the social channels for the '2 months to go' mark until the race begins on 8th November. The new footage shows the stunning HUGO BOSS boat cutting its teeth on the water in preparation to win the "Everest of the Seas".
"Olympic Nightmare Course" Gives Howth 17 Lambay Sailors a Dream Race
The Olympic sailing dream is of competition on a sterile racing area with weak to non-existent tides, well clear of any special wind effects that a nearby coastline and an island or two might provide, while of course using a meticulously-set Committee Boat start line and a cleverly-designed course to test several points of sailing. That's the way they want it. Yet if that's their dream - their perfect ideal - then Howth Yacht Club's traditional sixteen nautical miles of Lambay Race must be Olympic sailing's stuff of nightmares.
The original Lambay Course - raced at least since 1904, and probably earlier - was simply though Howth Sound inside Ireland's Eye after a pier start from Howth Harbour, then nor' eastwards to the east point of Lambay. Officially, it's The Nose, but few remember to call it that, they just call it the East Point, as we've a Nose of Howth already, and that's quite enough to smell the coffee on any one day.
The north side of Lambay seems like the Far Side of the Moon for most sailors, even those from Howth which is only seven miles away. And as you head west to double the island, there are various impairments to ease of navigation, such as Carrickdorish Rock and Harp Ear.
These are matters of even more concentration if you're beating against a westerly. But concentrating purely on sailing along there is difficult anyway, as Lambay is a natural wonder where the abundant wildlife - some of it on surprisingly spectacular cliffs - is augmented by a troupe of wallabies (don't ask), and Ireland's only colony of black rats, a cute little fellow who nevertheless would make life difficult for your average gannet settlement.

Dutch superyacht builder Royal Huisman has turned the hull of its new 59.7m (196ft) performance sloop, a spectacle that was watched by its owners and their design and build team at the yard's headquarters in Vollenhove.
Project 404, aka MM597, was designed by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design and built by Royal Huisman's craftsmen. French interior designers Studio Liaigre created the interior, which is currently under construction at Royal Huisman's joinery hall.
Project 404 boasts an iconic reversed bow and sleek, powerful hull lines. To facilitate the yacht's high-performance characteristics, it will have a lift keel, retractable propulsion, and twin carbon rudders. These will allow the yacht to take part in regattas and explore long-range destinations worldwide.
An assortment of cutouts in Project 404's deck will soon be a fully flush surface; its deck hatches appearing almost invisible at first glance. There will also be a large main tender hatch, an opening for sail storage on the underdeck reels, lockers for Rondal's carbon electric winches, and space for deck equipment.

ClubSwan 80 - Born to change the Maxi Yachts World
After the great success achieved by the technologically advanced ClubSwan 36, the ClubSwan 50 which marked the start of a new era in the One Design panorama and the new Super Maxi ClubSwan 125 ready to hit the water next spring and conceived to beat all world records, Nautor's Swan is expanding the ClubSwan family with another exceptional project, which will prove to be once again both technologically advanced and radical against the maxi sailing yachts' history and to complete the ClubSwan Yachts range.
The brief at the heart of the new project was to create a maxi yacht for real time racing: identical yachts, modern, fast and fun to compete with the same equivalent features, relying on the owner's abilities at the helm.
For the construction of the ClubSwan 80, Nautor's Swan has teamed up with Persico Marine, based in Nembro, an international shipyard renowned worldwide for its expertise in building high performance yachts.
Persico is putting to good advantage its know-how acquired from the series production of VO65s and larger advanced high-performance one-design boats currently sailing.
Nautor's Swan, Juan Kouyoumdjian and Persico Marine, together with selected experts in different fields (Vittorio Volonte for the project management, Giovanni Belgrano for the engineering, Scott Ferguson for the Rig Design and Nauta Design for the Interiors,) have been working very hard to design and develop this new performance boat.
The hull shape has been intensively tested by Juan Yacht Design's own C.F.D. department to reward each owner with the best performances combined with optimum control while racing inshore around the cans as well as offshore for the major maxi events. Some technical details:
LOA = 23.99 m

IZIBoat, the French manufacturer of a lightweight sailing catamaran targeting both leisure boaters and commercial rental operations, is embarking on an expansion strategy aimed at growing the company's footprint through licensing arrangements.
Marketed as a collapsible sailing catamaran that can be easily towed by a bicycle, the IZIBoat is presently sold through the company's website and manufactured on a made-to-order basis. IZIBoat principal François Tissier says that although the company has sold a number of boats through its existing channels - enough to generate a five-month backlog - the company is looking to expand internationally through licensing schemes.
Tissier notes that at present the company sells the catamaran in two configurations - as a base model, targeting commercial rental operations, and as a kit with wheels for consumers who can tow it to the beach with a bicycle or scooter. Future models in development include a sport version with a larger sail and additional performance enhancements, and an electric-powered model tentatively called the Turtle. A model equipped for fishing is also being considered.
